Chapter 7 - The Awakening

While the storm raged in the corporate world, the true victory was taking place back at Boston Memorial.

When William returned to Room 412 afternoon, the room was bathed in golden sunlight. Leo and his mother were sitting by the bedside.

Grace was awake.

She was weak, her voice a fragile whisper, but her eyes were clear, bright, and unmistakably alive.

"Daddy..." she whispered as William rushed to her side, falling to his knees and pressing his forehead against her small hand.

"I'm here, my sweet girl. I'm right here," William sobbed, letting go of all the grief, anger, and tension he had carried for months.

Grace slowly turned her head toward Leo, who was standing shyly near the window.

"He... he stayed," Grace murmured, her small fingers holding tightly to the wooden bead. "In the dark... I heard him talking to me. He held my hand."

Dr. Harrison walked in, checking her monitors with a look of pure astonishment. "It defies every statistical model we have, William. Her neurological pathways are re-engaging rapidly. She’s going to make a full recovery."

William looked up at Leo. The poor boy from the South End, who had nothing to give but his time and a simple prayer, had given him back his entire world.
