Chapter 10 - The Promise Kept

When William placed Grace’s hand into Leo’s, he leaned in and whispered to the young man, "You saved her life when she was seven, Leo. Now she’s yours to hold forever."

"I'll never let go, sir," Leo replied softly, his voice full of solemn gratitude.

During the reception under the glowing garden lights, Leo pulled a small velvet box from his pocket. He didn't open it to reveal a new ring—Grace was already wearing her diamond band. Instead, he pulled out the old, worn wooden bead, polished now by years of handling.

He placed it gently into Grace’s hand, just as he had done fourteen years ago in that cold, silent hospital room.

"When I was a little boy with nothing in my pockets," Leo spoke to the gathered guests, his eyes locked on Grace, "I thought miracles only happened in storybooks. But love isn't a fairy tale. It’s a choice to stay in the dark with someone until the morning comes."

Grace smiled, tears streaming down her cheeks, and kissed him deeply as the crowd erupted into applause.

William sat at his table, sipping his glass, watching his daughter laugh and dance under the starry night sky. The machines, the boardroom betrayals, and the freezing Boston snow were all gone. All that remained was light, warmth, and the unbelievable magic of a simple prayer.
