Chapter 10 - Happily Ever After

Years passed, but the bond forged in the shadows of that terrifying night never fractured.

The Moretti estate, once known as a fortress of fear and dark secrets, slowly transformed into a place of warmth, laughter, and genuine family. The armed guards at the gates still stood tall and vigilant, but they now nodded and smiled whenever I walked past, no longer just protectors of a syndicate boss, but guardians of a beloved little girl who had changed their world forever.

Mama became the respected matriarch of the household operations, overseeing the estate with grace, intelligence, and an unwavering quiet strength that earned the deep admiration of every capo and associate who walked through the doors. The dark cloud of poverty and desperation that had once hung over our lives was completely gone, replaced by a secure, beautiful future filled with endless possibilities.

As for Alejandro, the underworld continued to whisper his name with a mixture of absolute terror and profound respect. No rival syndicate ever dared challenge the Moretti empire again, knowing that the man at the top possessed a lethal combination of ruthless intelligence and unshakable loyalty. But inside the mansion walls, the fearsome mafia boss was simply a loving, devoted father.

On my tenth birthday, the grand ballroom was filled with laughter, music, and glowing lights. Associates from around the world sent magnificent gifts, but the only present that truly mattered sat proudly on the mahogany desk in Alejandro's study—the old, worn-out pink rabbit backpack I had carried the night I saved his life, resting safely beside a framed photograph of Mama, Alejandro, and me.

During the celebration, Alejandro walked over, placing a gentle hand on my shoulder as I blew out the candles on a magnificent, three-tiered cake.

“Make a wish, Emma,” he whispered softly, his dark eyes shining with quiet pride.

I looked up at him, then at Mama standing nearby with tears of joy in her eyes. I didn't need to wish for anything. I already had everything a little girl could ever dream of: a family that loved me, a home where I was safe, and a fierce, unbreakable protector who would cross oceans and weather any storm just to make sure I could always breathe easy.

I closed my eyes, blew out the candles in a single breath, and smiled as the entire room erupted into cheers and applause. Our story had begun in terror and bitter almonds, but it had grown into something beautiful, proving that even in the darkest corners of the world, love and courage could always find a way to rewrite the ending.
