Chapter 10 - A Legacy of Light

Ten years later, on a warm summer evening in Chicago, the rooftop terrace of the Cole-Parker estate was filled with laughter, music, and the bright chatter of family.
Adrian Cole, now eighty years old, sat comfortably in a cushioned armchair overlooking the sparkling lights of the city skyline he had conquered decades ago. Beside him sat Lily, now a successful executive and philanthropist, holding the hand of her own newborn child—a healthy baby boy named after the man who had changed their lives forever.
Emma, now a fully qualified pediatric surgeon running her own wing at Chicago General Hospital, walked over with a tray of fresh lemonade, laughing as she handed a glass to Adrian.
"Grandpa Adrian," Emma teased playfully, "stop looking so proud or your chest might burst."
Adrian chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I have every right to be proud. Look at this family. Look at what we built."
Lily looked down at her sleeping son, then over at Adrian and Emma. The ghosts of her past—the cold Chicago wind, the empty milk bottles, the dark South Side apartment—felt like a lifetime away. They were no longer shadows haunting her steps; they were the foundation of a strength that could never be broken.

"We didn't just build an empire, Adrian," Lily whispered softly, leaning her head against his shoulder as the summer breeze carried the sound of city lights far below. "We built a safe harbor."
And as the city lights twinkled across the dark waters of Lake Michigan, the little girl who had once walked into a glass tower asking for work knew, with absolute certainty, that she would never have to beg again. She had found her home, she had protected her family, and together, they had won the world.
