Chapter 9 - Rebuilding the Legacy

Two months later, the Grand Regent Hotel underwent a complete transformation.
The corrupt board members had all pleaded guilty under federal indictments, facing decades behind bars. The corporate structure of Vance Hospitality Group was overhauled from top to root, placing ethics, employee welfare, and transparency at the absolute center of its core values.
A newly dedicated wing inside the Grand Regent—named The Sarah Vance Memorial Foundation Center—now provided scholarships and financial aid to underprivileged children and families of hospitality workers, funded directly by corporate dividends.
Lupita now worked in a spacious, sunlit office on the top floor of the hotel, serving as the head of employee advocacy. No worker would ever be silenced, ignored, or mistreated under her watch.
Ethan had decided to step back from his university teaching position temporarily to manage the Vance Group personally, ensuring that his family’s legacy remained honorable and pure. But more importantly, he was finally able to be the father Lily deserved—present, attentive, and filled with a renewed love for life.
On a bright Saturday afternoon, Ethan and Lily walked through the newly renovated lobby of the Grand Regent. Guests chatted happily in the lounge, greeted by polite, smiling receptionists who treated every visitor with genuine respect.
Lupita walked out of the elevator, holding a stack of community outreach reports, and smiled brightly when she saw them.
“Mr. Vance! Lily! Good afternoon,” Lupita greeted them warmly, bending down to give Lily a high-five.
“Hi, Aunt Lupita!” Lily chirped happily, using the affectionate title she had naturally adopted over the past few weeks.
“How are your weekend art classes going, Lily?” Lupita asked.
“Great! I drew a picture of a big hotel with a garden on top,” Lily beamed.

Ethan smiled, looking around the magnificent lobby where their difficult journey had first begun months ago. What started as a cold, unwelcoming night of rejection had turned into a profound journey of truth, healing, and redemption.
“Everything is exactly where it’s supposed to be,” Ethan said softly.
