Chapter 7 - Awakening to a New Dawn

Ethan quietly unlocked the door to Suite 904. The room was warm, bathed in the soft amber glow of bedside lamps.
Lily was still sleeping peacefully, curled up on her side, clutching a small stuffed rabbit Ethan had bought her at the airport. The dark circles under her eyes, born from too many travels and too many whispered questions about where her mother had gone, seemed somehow lighter in repose.
Ethan sat on the edge of the mattress, gently brushing a lock of soft brown hair from her forehead.
“She’s safe now, sweetheart,” Ethan whispered softly into the quiet room. “Mommy’s name has been cleared. The people who hurt our family are gone.”
A soft knock sounded at the suite door. Ethan stood up and opened it to find Lupita standing there, holding a warm cup of chamomile tea and a fresh plate of pastries from the hotel kitchen.
“I thought you might need this, Mr. Vance,” Lupita said softly, her voice filled with gentle empathy. “How is Lily?”
“She’s sleeping soundly for the first time in years,” Ethan replied, stepping aside to let her in. “Please, sit down, Lupita. We need to talk about your future.”
Lupita sat on the edge of the velvet sofa, looking slightly uneasy. “My future? Mr. Vance, after everything that happened tonight, I’m just grateful the truth came out. I don't care if I lose my job as a housekeeper.”
“You won't lose your job,” Ethan said firmly, pouring himself a cup of tea. “In fact, effective immediately, I am appointing you as the Director of Internal Quality Assurance and Staff Welfare for the entire Vance Hospitality Group. With a full salary retroactively adjusted for the past five years, plus back pay for the harassment you endured under Harrington’s regime.”
Lupita’s eyes widened in sheer disbelief. She opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out; instead, tears of pure relief streamed down her face.
“Mr. Vance... I... I don't know what to say. Thank you. Thank you for giving us our dignity back.”

“No, Lupita,” Ethan corrected gently, holding up Sarah’s old photograph. “Thank you for keeping my wife’s memory alive, and for protecting the truth when everyone else looked away.”
As the clock ticked past midnight, signaling the dawn of a brand-new day—the exact anniversary of Sarah’s passing—Ethan felt a profound sense of closure settling over his soul. The ghosts of the past had finally been laid to rest.
