Chapter 6 - Confrontation at the Manor

Before they could reach the staircase, the estate’s emergency generators roared to life, flooding the hallways with harsh fluorescent light.

At the bottom of the main staircase stood Daniel, flanked by two armed security guards. He had realized the Vermont lead was a decoy and rushed back to Colorado.

His handsome face was twisted in dark rage, stripped of the charming facade Megan had known for years.

"You really shouldn't have come here, Megan," Daniel said coldly, stepping up the stairs. "You always were too curious for your own good."

"It's over, Daniel," Megan said, standing in front of Rachel protectively. "I have all the medical files. I know about the trust money, the forged consent forms, and the fake medical records."

Daniel chuckled bitterly. "And who will believe you? An emotionally fragile woman off her medication? A sister who signed a legally binding surrogacy contract? You have no power here, Megan. Hand over the folder, step aside, and maybe I’ll let you raise one of these children in exchange for your silence."

"You're a monster," Rachel cried from behind Megan.

"I'm a pragmatic man securing my future," Daniel spat. He nodded to his guards. "Bring them downstairs. Secure the sisters in the basement suite until the medical team arrives."

The guards stepped forward, raising their weapons.
