Chapter 4 - Unraveling the Trust

Over the next forty-eight hours, Megan and Marcus laid their trap. Realizing that Daniel would use all his legal resources and corrupt police contacts to track her down, Megan played his game against him. She used a burner phone to send a timed email to Daniel’s personal account, stating that she was staying at a wellness retreat in Vermont to "think things through."
While Daniel rushed off to Vermont with his team, Megan and Marcus flew privately into an airfield outside Denver.
They met with Elena Cruz, a brilliant investigative journalist and long-time ally of Megan’s late father. In Elena’s hidden studio, they pieced together the financial evidence.
"Daniel’s family firm is heavily in debt," Elena explained, displaying complex chart connections on her screen. "They mismanaged millions in overseas investments. Your father’s trust—worth over fifty million dollars—is the only thing keeping them afloat. If you reveal this fraud, Daniel loses everything: his law license, his family estate, and his freedom."
"I don't care about the money," Megan said fiercely. "I just want Rachel safe, and I want Daniel held accountable for every life he destroyed."
Elena smiled grimly. "Then let's give him a war he won't survive."

Together, they prepared a dossier containing forged signatures, illegal medical coercion records, and bank statements showing Daniel’s illegal transfers. They scheduled an automatic release of the evidence to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and every major news network—set to trigger in twenty-four hours unless Megan manually cancelled it.
With the legal trap armed, Megan prepared for the physical rescue.
