Chapter 8 - Healing the Broken Pieces

Four hours later, Dr. Vance stepped into the waiting room with a warm smile on his face.

“She did brilliantly,” Dr. Vance announced. “The defect is completely repaired, and her heart function is excellent. She’s in the recovery room and waking up now.”

Meera sobbed with relief, collapsing into Adrien’s arms. Adrien wrapped his arms tightly around her, holding her close, burying his face in her hair as tears of gratitude streamed down his face. For the first time in five years, the weight in his chest was gone.

Over the next two weeks, Lena’s recovery was nothing short of miraculous. Color returned to her cheeks, her breathing became effortless, and her energy soared. Adrien spent every day at the hospital, reading her stories, building Lego castles, and watching her laugh.

During those long days, Adrien and Meera talked for hours—not about the past, but about the future. They talked about Julian, Meera’s late brother, whose name Adrien cleared publicly through a press release that exposed Lucas Mercer’s lies to the business world. Adrien established a charitable foundation in Julian’s name, dedicated to funding heart surgeries for low-income children.

When the day came for Lena to be discharged, Adrien drove them not to Meera’s tiny apartment, but to a bright, sunlit house overlooking the ocean in Marblehead—a peaceful home he had purchased for them, far away from the dark memories of Beacon Hill.

“Where are we?” Lena asked, looking out the car window at the green lawn and the sparkling sea.

“This is home, sweetheart,” Adrien said, turning to look at Meera. “If your mother agrees.”

Meera looked at the beautiful house, then at Adrien’s hopeful, nervous expression. She smiled, a radiant, genuine smile that Adrien hadn't seen in six years.

“It’s perfect,” Meera said gently.
