Chapter 6 - The New Foundation

Rather than returning to the isolated, cold luxury of his San Francisco penthouse, Grant made a decision that shocked the corporate world: he resigned as CEO of Whitmore Systems, transitioning to the role of Chairman of the Board. He appointed a trusted, ethical successor to manage the daily operations, freeing himself from the endless eighty-hour workweeks that had consumed his youth.

He purchased a beautiful, sprawling estate just outside Atlanta—a home surrounded by lush green trees, featuring a grand wraparound porch, a modern security framework, and plenty of open lawn space for a growing child to run around.

The house was registered entirely in Claire's name.

"Why did you put the deed in my name?" Claire asked one evening as they stood on the back porch, watching the sunset cast golden hues across the vast backyard.

Grant walked up behind her, gently placing his hands on her waist. Claire didn't pull away; instead, she leaned back against his chest, feeling the steady, reassuring beat of his heart.

"Because I want you to know that this home is your sanctuary," Grant said softly into her hair. "You gave up everything to protect Noah. I want to build a life where you never have to feel unsafe or unappreciated again. This is your home, Claire. You are allowing me to be a guest here until I earn the right to stay forever."

Claire turned around in his arms, looking up into his dark, expressive eyes. The coldness that had once defined him was completely gone, replaced by a warm, deep warmth.

"You don't have to keep proving yourself, Grant," she whispered, gently touching his cheek. "You've been here every day. You've listened, you've protected us, and you've changed. Noah knows his father. And... I know the man you really are now."

Grant’s breath hitched. "Claire..."

"I forgive you, Grant," she said softly, tears pooling in her eyes—not tears of sadness, but of profound healing. "I forgive you for the past."

Grant pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly, resting his chin on her head as he closed his eyes, letting out a breath he felt like he had been holding for years.
