Chapter 8 - Confrontation in the Light

Rebecca froze, her eyes widening in sheer terror as she looked from the papers up to Maya’s face. She stared intently at Maya’s eyes, the shape of her jaw, the steady, dignified posture—and the truth hit her like a physical blow.

"No..." Rebecca whispered, her hand going to her mouth. "It can't be..."

"What is the meaning of this insolence?" Jason snapped, though his voice lacked conviction as a cold sweat broke out across his forehead. "Are you making accusations against my family?"

Maya pulled a third document from her pocket—the yellowed clinic log provided by Peter, accompanied by her own DNA comparison test which she had run against Julian’s blood sample during pre-op prep.

"Twenty years ago, you paid a clinic to hide your newborn daughter because her skin color threatened your public image," Maya said, her tone devoid of malice, carrying only unyielding truth. "You had an orderly leave her on the steps of a crumbling church in the freezing rain."

Jason stared at the official clinic seal on the old paper. His hands began to shake violently. "You... you are..."

"I am Dr. Maya Harris," she replied, standing tall. "The child you abandoned. And the doctor who just saved your son."

Rebecca burst into hysterical sobs, falling to her knees beside the sofa. "My baby... oh God, what did we do?"

Jason stepped back, striking the edge of the table. The mountain of pride, wealth, and reputation he had spent forty years building crumbled into dust in a single moment. The daughter he deemed a 'scandal' stood before him as an accomplished, life-saving surgeon holding his son's fate in her hands.
