Chapter 7 - The Gathering Truth

Maya walked into the private waiting room where Jason and Rebecca were pacing frantically.

"How is he?" Rebecca gasped, her hands trembling.

"The surgery was a complete success," Maya announced calmly. "Julian’s heart is fully repaired. He is in recovery and will make a full recovery."

Rebecca collapsed into a chair, crying tears of relief, while Jason let out a rare sigh of deep emotion, approaching Maya with an outstretched hand. "Dr. Harris... I don't know how to thank you. You’ve done the impossible. Name your price, any donation to your research—anything."

Maya did not shake his hand. Instead, she kept her hands folded in her lab coat pockets.

"I don't want your money, Mr. Whitmore," Maya said quietly. "However, there is a medical matter regarding Julian’s genetic condition that we need to discuss privately."

Jason frowned slightly, glancing at Rebecca. "A medical matter?"

Maya walked over to the table and laid out two documents: Julian’s genetic cardiac profile, and her own published research on genetic recessive traits.

"Julian’s condition was caused by a rare combination of recessive ancestral genes," Maya explained, her voice steady and clear. "It’s a trait that only manifests when both parents carry a specific, ancient lineage—often linked to African ancestry that remains hidden in Caucasian family lines for generations."

Jason’s face turned pale. "What are you talking about? That's impossible."

"It's not impossible, Mr. Whitmore. Genetics doesn't care about social status or family pride," Maya said softly, looking directly into his eyes. "Twenty years ago, a child was born in a private clinic with those exact expressed traits. And she was discarded to protect a lie."
