Chapter 6 - The Delicate Cut

Maya sat alone in her office for hours, processing the weight of the revelation. Her biological parents had discarded her like trash simply because of her appearance and their fear of scandal. Now, fate had brought them to their knees, begging her to save the son they kept.

For a moment, anger flared in her chest. But then she remembered Martha’s voice: "You are a miracle, child. Never let hatred dictate who you are."

Maya walked down to Julian’s room late that night. Julian was awake.

"Doctor," Julian whispered, "am I going to make it?"

Maya sat beside his bed, taking his pale hand in hers. Looking at him, she saw no trace of Jason’s arrogance or Rebecca’s vanity—only a kind-hearted young man who wanted to live.

"You’re going to make it, Julian," Maya said softly, feeling a quiet, protective bond for the brother who never knew she existed. "I won’t let anything happen to you."

The next morning, the high-stakes six-hour open-heart surgery commenced. In the operating theater under the bright surgical lights, Maya’s hands were flawless. She bypassed the malformed vessels with surgical perfection, repairing the delicate tissues that other surgeons had deemed untouchable.

When the monitors stabilized and Julian’s heart began to beat strongly on its own, a quiet cheer went up among the surgical team. Maya stepped back, exhausted but deeply relieved. She had saved her brother's life.
