Chapter 6 - The Boardroom Siege

The final board meeting of Vance Global before the annual shareholder vote was set for a Tuesday morning.

Dorothia had pulled every string she had left to orchestrate a corporate maneuver that would oust Julian from his non-executive seat and secure Grant’s position as CEO. She had invited the entire board, along with key investors, to the penthouse boardroom of the Vance Tower.

She thought she was setting a trap. She didn't know she was walking into an execution.

At 10:00 AM, the massive mahogany doors of the boardroom swung open.

Dorothia sat at the head of the long glass table, dressed in a royal blue suit, with Grant sitting nervously at her right and Sloan sitting in the observer's row.

"Julian, you're late," Dorothia announced coldly, resting her hands on her gold-embossed folder. "We were just about to vote on the restructuring of the executive board."

Julian walked in, tall, impeccably tailored, and radiating an air of absolute authority. But he wasn't alone.

I walked in right beside him.

I was eight and a half months pregnant, wearing an elegant, form-fitting emerald green dress that accentuated my belly, my hair styled in soft, confident waves. I didn't hide behind Julian; I walked shoulder-to-shoulder with him.

Grant leapt out of his chair. "What is she doing here?! This is a private corporate meeting! Cesily has no standing!"

"Actually, Grant, she has the highest standing in this room," Julian said calmly, taking his seat at the opposite end of the table. He signaled to Eleanor, who stepped forward and distributed thick leather-bound dossiers to every board member.

"What is the meaning of this foolishness?" Dorothia spat, her composure cracking.

"The meaning, Dorothia," I said, my voice echoing clearly through the pristine room, "is that seven months ago, Grant illegally transferred $400,000 of my personal assets into a shell corporation registered under Sloan's father's name to cover up a $2 million embezzlement scheme from Vance Global’s construction fund."

The room erupted into shocked murmurs. Board members frantically flipped open the dossiers, reading line after line of certified bank records, wire transfers, and sworn affidavits.

"That's a lie!" Grant yelled, his face turning ghostly pale. "She’s insane! She’s angry because I’m divorcing her!"

"You aren't divorcing her, Grant," Eleanor stated calmly, pulling out a court order signed by the Chief Justice. "Cesily is divorcing you. And as part of the emergency asset recovery motion granted this morning, the court has seized Grant's equity shares in Vance Global and assigned voting control directly to Cesily until the criminal fraud trial concludes."

Dorothia stood up so fast her chair screeched against the marble floor. "You can't do this! I own thirty percent of this company!"

"And I own forty-two percent," Julian said smoothly, leaning back in his chair and lacing his fingers together. "Combined with Cesily’s newly acquired fifteen percent control, we hold the absolute majority."

Julian looked around the table at the terrified board members. "Effective immediately, Grant Vance is removed as CEO and stripped of all executive authority pending criminal investigation. Furthermore, the board will vote today to liquidate Dorothia’s advisory trust to cover the company's legal liabilities."

Sloan stood up, her face twisted in horror, looked at Grant—now trembling and utterly ruined—and grabbed her designer purse. "You told me you had this under control!" she hissed at Grant before rushing out of the boardroom, her heels clicking furiously against the floor.

Grant sank back into his chair, his head in his hands.

Dorothia stared at me, her chest heaving, her eyes burning with pure venom. "You... you little nobody. I gave you a home. I gave you a name!"

I walked over to the head of the table, stopping right in front of Dorothia. I looked down at her, calm, composed, and entirely unfazed by her fury.

"You gave me a single plate in a cold kitchen, Dorothia," I said softly, so only she could hear. "And in return, I took your company."
