Chapter 10 - The Master Table

Two years later.

The summer sun was warm and golden over the rolling green lawns of the cliffside estate.

It was the day of our annual summer garden party, but more importantly, it was a celebration of how far we had come. The estate was filled with laughter, music, and the delicious scent of roasted meats and fresh summer flowers.

Friends, business partners, restored family members who had long detached themselves from Dorothia's influence, and colleagues were scattered across the lawn. Children were running through the sprinklers near the orchard.

In the center of the grand lawn, under the shade of two ancient oak trees, stood a massive, custom-built outdoor dining table. It was made of rich, reclaimed mahogany wood that I had personally restored—a table designed to seat thirty people comfortably, with no head, no foot, and no grand power seats. Just a wide, welcoming circle of warmth.

I stood on the stone patio, wearing a beautiful flowing white linen dress, watching two-year-old Clara running toward the table with a bright yellow flower in her tiny hand. She was followed closely by Julian, who was laughing and chasing her, looking younger, happier, and more relaxed than he ever had in his life.

Julian caught Clara, lifting her up onto his shoulders, and walked over to me. He wrapped his free arm around my waist, pulling me against his side, and kissed my temple.

"Everything is set," Julian said, looking out over the crowded lawn. "Everyone is here."

I looked at the long, beautiful table, set with dozens of colorful plates, gleaming glasses, and fresh wildflowers.

I remembered that night two and a half years ago—the cold kitchen, the single plate, the ice water, and the quiet humiliation they thought would crush me.

Back then, I thought my life was over because I had been kicked out of a family that never loved me. I didn't realize that being pushed away from their table was the greatest gift they could have ever given me. It forced me to stop begging for a seat among bullies and built the courage in me to create my own home.

"Mommy! Sit!" Clara chirped from Julian's shoulders, pointing her tiny finger toward the grand table.

"She’s right," Julian smiled, his dark eyes shining with deep love as he looked at me. "It's time to eat, my love. Come to the table."

I smiled, taking Julian's hand, feeling the warm weight of my sapphire ring resting against his fingers.

We walked down the patio steps together, stepping out into the golden sunlight, taking our places at the head of a full, joyous table surrounded by real love, true family, and an endless future.
