A year after the trial, spring returned to the city with brilliant warmth and blooming cherry blossoms lining the avenues.
I took a weekend off to visit the coastal family estate, spending my afternoons walking along the cliffs where the ocean met the sky. My father joined me, walking at a relaxed pace, leaning slightly on his cane but smiling brightly.
"You've truly transformed this company, Victoria," my father said, gazing out over the water. "Your mother would have been so proud of the work you're doing with the survivor support initiative."
"Thank you, Dad," I replied, linking my arm through his. "It took time, but I realize now that losing that marriage was the best thing that ever happened to me. It forced me to stop hiding behind someone else's shadow."
"A true diamond doesn't fear the pressure, my dear," my father said wisely. "It’s what creates the brilliance."
Later that evening, I attended a charity gala—not as a trophy wife standing quietly behind a narcissist, but as the keynote speaker and primary benefactor of the event. When I stepped onto the stage, the auditorium erupted in warm, genuine applause.
