Chapter 7 - A New Dawn at Sterling Tech

A month later, Sterling Tech held a massive press conference at its corporate headquarters downtown.

The launch of the new solar energy matrix was an unprecedented global success. The vulnerability exploits that Vanessa had tried to steal had already been patched, and the company's stock soared to record highs.

Grant stood at the center podium, addressing hundreds of journalists, investors, and engineers. Flashbulbs popped like lightning storms across the auditorium.

"For a long time," Grant spoke into the microphone, his voice echoing clearly across the hall, "I believed that true security came from building higher walls, heavier vaults, and more complex encryption algorithms. I believed that technology alone could protect what we value most."

He paused, looking out over the crowd, his eyes finding a quiet corner near the back of the auditorium where Maya and Helen sat watching.

"I was wrong," Grant continued, a warm smile gracing his face. "True security doesn't come from machines. It comes from awareness. It comes from integrity. It comes from ordinary people who refuse to look away when something is wrong. I want to dedicate this milestone today not to our board, nor to our investors, but to a young lady who taught me what true vigilance looks like. Thank you, Maya."

The entire auditorium turned around, spotting the ten-year-old girl sitting modestly beside her mother. A thunderous, roaring standing ovation filled the hall. Dozens of cameras swung around to capture her face, but Maya didn't shrink away; she sat tall, her head held high, remembering every lesson her grandfather had ever taught her.

After the conference concluded, Grant invited them to his private office on the top floor of the skyscraper.

The room was bathed in golden afternoon light, looking out over the magnificent skyline of the city. There were no hidden cameras here. No secret wires. Just open space, clean lines, and an atmosphere of absolute, uncompromised trust.

"Well, Agent Caldwell," Grant joked, handing Maya a sparkling glass of sparkling cider while Helen held a cup of coffee. "What's our next mission?"

May you like

Maya laughed, the sound bright and free. "I think," she said, looking out at the sprawling city below, "the estate is safe for now. But I'll keep an eye out."

Grant chuckled, raising his glass in a toast. "To truth, vigilance, and looking for what truly belongs."
