Chapter 9 - A New Dawn

Two months later, the school district announced a complete overhaul of its administrative leadership. A new superintendent—a dedicated educator with an immaculate background in student advocacy and transparency—was appointed by unanimous vote. The corrupt board members who had enabled Miss Waters either resigned or faced removal proceedings.
Our home returned to a peaceful, joyful rhythm. The lingering trauma of that dark spring gradually faded, replaced by laughter, bike rides in the park, and late-night board games at the kitchen table.
On a warm Saturday afternoon in November, Mikey came running into the kitchen holding a blue ribbon and a shiny gold trophy.
"Dad! Dad! Look! My team won the regional soccer tournament!" he shouted excitedly, holding the trophy up high.
I knelt down, wrapping my arms around him and lifting him up into a celebratory bear hug as he laughed brightly.

"I am so proud of you, buddy," I whispered, pressing a kiss to his cheek. "You're the strongest, bravest boy I know."
"We did it together, Dad," Mikey smiled, his eyes shining with pure happiness. "We beat them."
