Chapter 5 - The Confrontation at the Estate

By 10:00 a.m., the iron gates of Michael’s sprawling suburban estate were surrounded by tension.

Ashley stood on the front steps, her face pale, her carefully styled hair slightly disheveled. Two private security guards stood on either side of the open doors, blocking her entry, while Michael’s chief corporate attorney, a sharp-eyed man named Harrison, calmly handed her a thick manila folder.

"What is the meaning of this?" Ashley shouted, her voice echoing across the manicured lawns. "Michael! Get out here and face me yourself! You can't do this to me!"

The front glass doors parted, and Michael stepped out into the sunlight. He wasn't wearing his usual boardroom expression of detached authority; he looked exhausted, weathered, but his posture was immovable as stone.

"It’s over, Ashley," Michael said, walking down the steps to stop a few feet away from her. "The police are already reviewing the digital forensics provided by my investigator. Your brother Marcus was picked up at his apartment thirty minutes ago."

Ashley’s eyes widened in sheer terror. She lunged forward, her nails clawing toward his face, but the security guards instantly stepped in, pinning her arms back.

"You arrogant bastard!" she shrieked, spittle flying from her lips. "I gave you everything you wanted! I made you look like a winner! Without me, you’re just a miserable, cold-hearted machine!"

"No," Michael replied quietly, looking down at her with complete detachment. "Without you, I was a fool. But I’m going to spend the rest of my life making sure the woman I actually destroyed gets justice."

He turned his back on her, signaling Harrison. "Escort her off the property. Make sure her personal belongings are left at the gate."

As Ashley’s furious screams faded down the driveway, swallowed by the roar of police sirens approaching from the main road, Michael climbed back into his SUV.

The first battle was won. But the real war—winning back the heart of the woman he loved—was only just beginning.
