Chapter 8 - A Legacy Reclaimed
Three weeks after the arrests, a press conference was held at the state capitol.
Ethan stood before a wall of reporters and news cameras. Next to him stood Hannah Brooks, wearing an elegant dark blue dress, holding Sophie’s hand.
"Eighteen months ago, Caleb Brooks died at Mercer Atlantic," Ethan said into the microphones. "The company falsely attributed his death to operator error. Today, on behalf of Mercer Group, I publicly exonerate Caleb Brooks. He was not careless. He was a hero who fought to keep his fellow workers safe."
Ethan turned to Hannah and presented her with a official certificate of honor and the establishment of the Caleb Brooks Foundation for Worker Safety, endowed with $50 million to protect workers across the nation.
"To Mrs. Hannah Brooks and Sophie," Ethan continued, his voice trembling slightly with genuine emotion. "No amount of money can replace a husband or a father. But we promise that Caleb's name will forever stand for truth, dignity, and safety."
