Chapter 7 - The Recovery

The return to the Moretti estate late that night was a blurred vision of relief and emotion.

Sophia was pacing frantically in the grand foyer, surrounded by two worried housekeepers, when the heavy oak front doors swung open.

Alessandro walked through the entryway, dirty, bruised, and carrying Emma asleep in his arms, wrapped safely in his heavy dark coat. Bruno trotted proudly at his side, his tail giving a low, happy wag.

Sophia let out a choked cry, covering her mouth as fresh tears burst from her eyes. She sprinted across the polished marble floor and threw her arms around Alessandro and her daughter.

"Emma! Oh my God, Emma!" Sophia wept hysterically, kissing her daughter’s forehead, her hands scanning every inch of her child to ensure she was unhurt.

Alessandro gently transferred the sleeping girl into Sophia’s arms. Sophia cradled her baby close, sobbing tears of unbelievable relief, before turning her gaze to Alessandro.

She saw the blood on his hands, the exhausted line of his jaw, and the profound, unconditional love glowing in his dark eyes.

Without a word, Sophia reached out, grabbed the lapel of his torn shirt, and pulled him down into a deep, desperate kiss right in the middle of the foyer.

Alessandro wrapped his broad arms around both of them, pulling the mother and daughter into a tight, protective embrace. The guards and staff quietly withdrew from the hall, leaving the three of them alone in the quiet warmth of the grand house.

"Thank you," Sophia whispered against his lips, her face wet with tears. "Thank you for bringing our world back."

"I promised you," Alessandro murmured, resting his forehead against hers. "I will never let anything separate us again."

Over the next month, the Moretti estate underwent a profound transformation.

Alessandro dismantled the lingering elements of the Valenti syndicate, securing an absolute, unchallenged peace across the region. But more importantly, he began dismantling the walls around his own heart.

The underworld chief, once known as a merciless phantom, began taking his breakfasts in the main dining room with Sophia and Emma. He spent his afternoons teaching Emma how to throw a ball in the sunlit garden, with Bruno trotting lazily alongside them.

The cold stone fortress had finally become a home.

One warm summer evening, as Emma was fast asleep in her room—guarded as always by a sleeping Bruno on her rug—Alessandro took Sophia by the hand and led her out onto the grand balcony overlooking the illuminated gardens.

The night air was sweet with the scent of blooming jasmine.

Alessandro reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small, black velvet box. He turned to Sophia, taking her hand in his.

"For fifteen years, I thought strength meant being alone," Alessandro said, his deep voice rich with emotion. "I thought love was a weakness that enemies could use to break you. But when I saw Emma with Bruno... when I saw you in this house... I realized I was wrong."

He opened the velvet box, revealing a breathtaking diamond ring that caught the moonlight in a brilliant display of sparkle.

"You and Emma didn't make me weak, Sophia," Alessandro whispered, looking into her warm, tear-filled eyes. "You gave me a reason to live. You are my home. Will you marry me and make this family real?"

May you like

Sophia wiped away a happy tear, a brilliant, radiant smile breaking across her face.

"Yes," she whispered softly, throwing her arms around his neck. "Yes, Alessandro. A thousand times yes."
