Chapter 6 - The Slaughter at 4th Street

The rain poured down in torrents over the industrial district of Chicago. The abandoned meatpacking plant rose out of the mist like a rusting metal leviathan, surrounded by broken concrete and decaying chain-link fences.
Inside the dimly lit main floor of the plant, rain dripped through holes in the roof, splashing into stagnant puddles. Heavy iron meat hooks hung from rusty overhead tracks, swaying gently in the cold draft.
In the center of the vast floor, tied to a small wooden chair beneath a single hanging lightbulb, was Emma.
She was terrified, tears rolling down her smudged cheeks, but she squeezed her eyes shut, remembering what her mother had told her: Be brave.
Standing behind her was Don Lorenzo Valenti, a greasy, arrogant man in his late fifties, flanked by fifteen heavily armed enforcers carrying assault rifles. Another fifteen men were stationed along the catwalks above, scanning the dark corners.
"Check the time," Lorenzo spat, lighting a cigar. "If Moretti isn't here in five minutes, blow the little brat’s brains out and dump her in the river. We'll send her shoes to his estate."
Suddenly, the heavy iron front doors of the facility were hit with explosive force.
BOOM!
The massive metal doors buckled violently off their hinges, flying inward and crushing two Valenti enforcers instantly beneath hundreds of pounds of twisted steel.
Before the smoke could even clear, a shadow moved through the entry.
Alessandro stepped into the dim light. He wore no armor on his head, no helmet—just his dark coat, his face a mask of absolute, unholy vengeance. Beside him walked Bruno, his teeth bared, a guttural growl vibrating through the wet floorboards.
"MORETTI!" Lorenzo yelled, flinching back in shock, drawing his pistol and aiming it at Emma’s head. "Stop right there! One more step and I paint this floor with her!"
Alessandro didn't stop walking. His dark eyes locked onto Lorenzo’s.
"You made a mistake, Lorenzo," Alessandro’s voice boomed, echoing off the iron rafters like thunder. "You thought she was my weakness."
Alessandro raised his right hand, making a swift gesture.
THWIP! THWIP! THWIP!
Suppressed rifle fire rained down from the shattered skylights above.
The six Valenti guards standing on the catwalks were struck simultaneously in the head, their lifeless bodies crashing down onto the concrete floor below.
"FIRE!" Lorenzo shrieked in absolute panic.
Chaos erupted.
Alessandro moved with terrifying, superhuman speed. He drew twin pistols, diving behind a heavy steel support pillar as a hail of bullets tore up the concrete around him.
Bruno launched himself like a midnight missile through the smoke. The massive hound leaped seven feet through the air, tearing into the throat of the nearest shooter, dragging him to the ground in a spray of blood before lunging at the next target.
Alessandro stepped out from behind the pillar, firing with ruthless, mathematical precision. Every shot he fired found a heart or a head. Bang! Bang! Bang! Three men crumpled. He reloaded in a fraction of a second, rolling past a burst of automatic fire, returning two rounds that shattered the shooter’s face.
Marco and the Moretti tactical strike team breached the rear entrances, throwing flashbang grenades that blinded and deafened the remaining Valenti men. The room descended into an absolute bloodbath of controlled, lethal violence.
Lorenzo, realizing his men were being annihilated, grabbed Emma by her shoulder, pulling her up as a human shield, aiming his gun at her temple as he backed toward an emergency exit.
"STAY BACK!" Lorenzo screamed, sweat pouring down his face, his hand shaking violently. "STAY BACK OR I KILL HER!"
Emma cried out, "Mr. Boss!"
Alessandro stepped out of the shadow of a hanging meat hook. His clothes were covered in rain and the blood of his enemies, his gun held steady at his side.
"Put the gun down, Lorenzo," Alessandro said, his voice terrifyingly calm as he took a slow, deliberate step forward.
"I’ll do it! I swear to God I’ll shoot her!" Lorenzo shrieked, tightening his grip on the little girl’s shoulder.
"Look down," Alessandro whispered.
Lorenzo blinked, confused—and then felt a cold, wet nose press against the back of his knee.
He looked down in horror.
Bruno was standing right behind him, his jaws dripping with blood, his dark eyes burning with demonic fury.
Before Lorenzo could pull the trigger, Bruno lunged upward, tearing his massive jaws into Lorenzo’s arm. Lorenzo screamed in agony, dropping his weapon as the heavy dog slammed him hard against the concrete floor.
Alessandro sprinted forward, snatching Emma into his arms in one fluid motion, pulling her face tightly against his chest so she wouldn't see the violence.
With his right hand, Alessandro drew his combat knife, stepped over the screaming, bloodied Lorenzo, and slammed the blade straight down through Lorenzo’s chest, pinning him permanently to the cold, wet floor.
The room fell dead silent, save for the patter of rain and the heavy breathing of the surviving Moretti men.
Alessandro held Emma close, his hand cradling the back of her head, feeling her tiny heart hammering wildly against his ribs.
"It’s okay, little one," Alessandro murmured softly, his terrifying voice softening into gentle warmth. "It’s over. I’ve got you."
Emma wrapped her tiny arms tightly around his neck, burying her face in his coat.
"I knew you’d come, Mr. Boss," she whimpered softly. "Bruno drying the bad men?"
May you like
Alessandro looked over at Bruno, who was panting heavily, sitting proudly beside the fallen Don.
"Yes," Alessandro smiled softly, a genuine, warm smile that his men had never seen in twenty years. "Bruno dried the bad men."
