Chapter 9 - A New Family Dawn

"Dad," Ethan said, looking up with bright blue eyes that no longer carried the shadow of tragic loss. "Can we play Mommy's message today?"
"Whenever you want, Ethan," Daniel replied gently.
Ethan reached out and pressed the bumper of the red car.
The small speaker chimed softly, and Claire’s clear, beautiful voice radiated throughout the sunlit room:
"...Ethan, my sweetest boy. If you are listening to this, remember that love never truly leaves us. It stays in the things we build, the people we touch, and the hearts that choose to remember. Look after your father. And Daniel... open your heart again. Life is too beautiful to live in the dark..."
The message faded into a gentle, sweet piano melody that Claire had recorded herself.
Rosa walked over, resting a gentle hand on Annie’s shoulder. Tears glistened in her eyes. "She had such a beautiful soul, Mr. Whitmore."
"She did," Daniel said, turning to look at Rosa. "And she was right. Life shouldn't be lived in the dark."
Daniel took a step toward Rosa and Annie. "Rosa, I want to discuss something with you and Annie. The Whitmore Foundation is opening a new youth engineering and arts academy in the city next month."
Annie’s eyes went wide. "An academy? With real tools?"
"The best tools in the world," Daniel smiled, kneeling down to Annie’s eye level. "And we want you to be the head of the junior robotics department, Annie. And Rosa, I want you to run the foundation's charitable operations."

Rosa covered her mouth, overwhelmed. "Mr. Whitmore... Daniel... we could never repay you for your kindness."
"You already have," Daniel said softly, looking at Ethan, who was currently laughing as Annie showed him how to light up a little LED bulb using a lemon battery. "You brought my son back to me. You brought light back into this home."
