Chapter 8 - Healing Broken Bonds

Six months passed.

The transition of Dominic’s empire from a shadow syndicate to a fully legitimate, multi-billion-dollar global logistics enterprise was the talk of Wall Street. Dominic Vale had officially stepped out of the shadows. He was no longer the Wolf of Manhattan; he was simply Dominic Vale, philanthropist and business mogul.

True to his word, Dominic was a devoted co-parent. Claire had given birth to a healthy, beautiful baby boy named Leo. Dominic had bought Claire a stunning estate in upstate New York, far away from the city's noise, and he visited every weekend, spending hours holding his son and marveling at the miracle of life. He and Claire had found a deep, peaceful friendship—a bond forged in surviving a storm.

But throughout those six months, Dominic’s heart remained anchored in a cozy apartment in Queens.

He had kept Grace on his personal payroll, but he had stopped asking her to clean. Instead, he had hired her as the Director of his new charitable foundation, recognizing her sharp intellect, her empathy, and her fierce organizational skills.

One Friday evening, Dominic drove his own car—no driver, no guards—to Grace’s apartment.

He knocked on the door. It opened to reveal Grace, wearing a simple knitted sweater, her hair in a loose ponytail. She looked beautiful, free from the exhaustion that had once weighed her down.

"Dominic," she said, her eyes shining with surprise. "What are you doing here?"

"I was in the neighborhood," Dominic lied smoothly, holding up a white bakery box. "I brought cupcakes. I thought maybe we could split them."

Grace laughed, a warm, melodic sound that made Dominic’s chest swell. "Come in."

Inside, Lucy was sitting at the small dining table, immediately jumping up when she saw him. "Mr. Dominic!"

She ran forward, and Dominic caught her easily, lifting her into the air before hugging her tightly.

"How is my favorite scholar?" Dominic asked, setting her down.

"I got an A-plus on my science project!" Lucy beamed. "And look, my backpack doesn't have tape anymore!" She proudly pointed to a brand-new, high-quality pink backpack resting by the door.

"I see that," Dominic smiled. "But I think the old one had more character. It possessed excellent aerodynamic qualities."

Grace smiled, leaning against the kitchen counter. "Thank you for coming, Dominic. It’s always good to see you."
