Chapter 7 - The Wolf’s Wrath

The following week was a reckoning.
Dominic Vale did not earn the title "The Wolf of Manhattan" by showing mercy to traitors. Systematically, ruthlessly, and with surgical precision, Dominic dismantled Victor’s entire network.
Every corrupt cop, every dirty politician, and every rival syndicate leader who had aligned with Victor was exposed, neutralized, or run out of the city. Dr. Harold Vance was handed over to the federal authorities with a mountain of evidence detailing his illegal medical fraud, ensuring he would spend the rest of his life behind bars.
As for Victor Shaw, Dominic did not kill him. To Dominic, death was too quick, too merciful. Instead, he stripped Victor of every penny, every asset, and every shred of influence he possessed, leaving him completely destitute and exiled from the city, a pariah in the very underworld he had sought to rule.
With the empire secured and the threat eliminated, Dominic returned to the penthouse.
The yellow nursery was still there, untouched. Dominic stood in the doorway, staring at the handmade crib.
Claire walked up behind him, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder.
"It’s over, Dominic," she said quietly. "We can finally have our family."
Dominic turned to look at her. The love he had felt for Claire was real, but it was a love built on the life he used to live—a life of secrets, shields, and constant suspicion. The trauma of the past few weeks had cracked open a door in his soul that could never be shut again.
"Claire," Dominic said, his voice filled with a gentle, aching sadness. "I love you. And I will love our child with everything I have. But we cannot be together."
Claire stared at him, her eyes filling with tears. "What? Why?"
"Because when Victor brought me that fake report, my first instinct wasn't to talk to you. It was to shut down, to hurt you, and to build my walls back up," Dominic explained softly. "I don't trust the way I love you, Claire. And you deserve a man who doesn't have to fight his own demons just to believe you."
Claire looked at him for a long, silent moment. She saw the truth in his eyes. The Wolf had survived, but the man had been fundamentally changed.
"Who changed you, Dominic?" she asked quietly. "Was it the little girl? Or her mother?"
Dominic didn't answer, but his silence spoke volumes.

Claire wiped a tear from her cheek and offered a bittersweet smile. "Just promise me you'll be a father to our baby. A real father."
"I swear it on my life," Dominic said.
