Chapter 9 - A Promise Beyond the Gun

Six months later, the Vitale estate was unrecognizable from the cold fortress it had once been. Children's toys lay scattered on the manicured lawns, laughter rang through the corridors, and the heavy security presence had morphed into a discrete, protective presence for a happy family.

On a bright autumn afternoon, beneath the very oak tree where it all began, Damiano stood in a simple black tuxedo. Friends, legitimate business partners, and loyal staff members gathered on the lawn.
Isabel walked down the grass aisle in an elegant white silk gown, holding a bouquet of yellow daisies. Lily ran ahead of her in a matching flower-girl dress, tossing flower petals onto the grass with chaotic delight.
When Isabel reached Damiano, he took her hand and leaned down to whisper, "I promised you that no one would ever hurt you again."
