Chapter 6 - The Trap at the River Gate

The rain began to fall heavily as Marcus Doyle and twenty-eight heavily armed mercenaries crossed the perimeter fence at the southern boundary. Marcus, a rugged man with bitter eyes and a reckless posture, checked his tactical watch.
"Renato said the cameras are looped," Marcus muttered to his lieutenant. "We head straight for the main house, execute Vitale in his sleep, and sweep the staff quarters for Isabel and the kid."
They moved like shadows through the manicured gardens, approaching the estate’s grand patio. But as the last man stepped past the marble fountain, floodlights suddenly roared to life, blinding the intruders in a wall of brilliant white light.
"Welcome to the Vitale estate, Marcus," Damiano’s voice echoed over the courtyard loudspeakers.
Panicked, Marcus’s men raised their weapons and began firing blindly into the lights. But Damiano’s loyal forces were already entrenched in fortified elevated positions around the patio.
A disciplined, overwhelming crossfire erupted. The ambush was swift, brutal, and calculated. Within five minutes, Marcus's mercenaries were disarmed, wounded, or pinned to the wet stone floor.
Marcus tried to break away toward the heavy oak doors, but Enzo slammed him to the ground, disarming him and pinning his arms behind his back with plastic flex-cuffs.
Damiano stepped out into the courtyard, holding a large black umbrella against the rain. He looked down at Marcus, whose face was covered in wet mud and blood.
"You came into my home," Damiano said quietly. "You threatened a child."

"She’s my daughter!" Marcus spat, struggling against his restraints. "You have no right!"
"You lost the right to call her your daughter the moment you used her as a bargaining chip to sell out a mother," Damiano replied coldly.
