Chapter 9 - Reclaiming the Crown

Over the next six months, the city underwent a dramatic transformation. The reign of terror and shadow operations that had plagued the harbor under Salieri's secret influence were dismantled. Together, Roman and Clara restructured the syndicate into a legitimate shipping and security corporation, using their combined wealth to rebuild the impoverished districts of the town.

The citizens who had once mocked Clara—calling her the "ugliest girl in town" because of her hidden lifestyle and deliberately ruined clothes—now bowed their heads in genuine respect whenever she passed through the grand plaza. They saw not a scarred outcast, but a resilient, elegant leader who had returned to heal her people.

Eleanor was brought to live in a peaceful cottage on the estate grounds, her life spent in comfortable retirement, knowing her beloved Clara was finally safe and cherished.

One evening, in the grand ballroom of the Valente Estate—now fully restored with glass chandeliers, golden archways, and warm velvet drapes—Roman held a grand gala. There were no hidden gunmen, no whispers of malice, and no lingering doubts.

Roman took Clara’s hand under the glowing chandeliers, leading her to the center of the dance floor as the orchestra began to play a soft, romantic waltz. Clara wore a stunning emerald green silk gown that boldly exposed her left shoulder, showing the winged crown mark without fear or shame.

"You look breathtaking, my Queen," Roman whispered, spinning her gently across the floor.

"And you look surprisingly gentle for a feared mafia boss," Clara teased, a genuine, radiant smile illuminating her features.

"Only for you, Clara," Roman murmured, drawing her close. "Only ever for you."
