Chapter 10 - A Happy Ending Under the Chicago Sun

Five years later.

The Calloway estate was alive with laughter, music, and the bright chatter of family and friends.

The sprawling emerald lawn was decorated with white silk tents, glowing fairy lights, and thousands of blooming white roses. Guests from across Chicago—business partners, estate staff, old friends, and local dignitaries—gathered to celebrate an event the local newspapers never thought they would witness.

Vincent Calloway was getting married.

At forty-six, the most feared man on Chicago’s North Side stood at the altar beneath a floral archway, wearing a classic black tuxedo, looking more relaxed, content, and genuinely happy than anyone had ever seen him.

And walking down the aisle, scattering silver glitter petals across the green grass, was an eight-year-old girl in a gorgeous pink princess dress complete with sparkling shoes that caught the golden afternoon sunlight.

Lily stopped right in front of Vincent, grinned mischievously, and handed him a small, perfectly wrapped velvet box instead of flower petals.

“What is this, Lily?” Vincent asked, raising an eyebrow with a fond smile.

“It’s your wedding wish,” Lily whispered loudly enough for the entire audience to hear. “Mommy says your wish came true today because you get to keep us forever.”

Vincent chuckled, opening the box to reveal a small, polished silver pin shaped like a tiny fountain pen—a reminder of the day three simple wishes changed his entire world.

As Claire walked down the aisle on the arm of seventy-two-year-old Walter Hayes, radiant in an elegant lace ivory gown with a bright, joyful smile, Vincent felt a profound sense of gratitude.

He had spent the first half of his life believing that trust was a weakness and that protection required walls of stone and steel. But true strength, he finally understood, lived in the courage to care, to forgive, and to love without reservation.

As Claire reached the altar and took his hand, Vincent looked into her bright green eyes, knowing that all the wealth in Chicago could never compare to the family standing beside him now.

And under the warm, cloudless Chicago sun, they began their happily ever after.
