Chapter 7 - The Unburied Truth

With our lives stabilizing, Emily decided to honor her biological mother’s memory in a permanent, meaningful way.

We established the Marisol Rivera Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping reunite separated mothers and children, providing legal defense for poor families, and supporting maternal health clinics in rural communities across Mexico and South Texas.

At the launch event held in Austin, Emily stood before a crowd of supporters, journalists, and healthcare professionals. She wore a simple white dress and held five-month-old Leo in her arms.

"For eight months, I lay in a silent dark room," Emily spoke into the microphone, her voice steady and full of grace. "People thought I couldn't hear them, but I could feel the distance between where I was and where my child was waiting. Truth is like a seed planted deep in the earth—no matter how much dirt you cover it with, it will always fight its way toward the sun."

The audience rose to their feet in applause. Sitting in the front row, Rosa wiped tears of joy from her eyes, while Lily clapped enthusiastically.
