Chapter 8 - Justice Served

Within twenty minutes, the glamorous New York City upper-class gala had transformed into a crime scene.

Flashing red and blue lights from a dozen NYPD cruisers illuminated the grand facade of the Sterling estate, casting eerie shadows across the polished marble pillars. Guests had been quietly ushered out through the rear exits, whispering in stunned disbelief as news of the billionaire's bride being arrested for kidnapping and attempted murder spread like wildfire through the media.

Detectives swarmed the staff hallway, entering the hidden sub-basement where forensics teams uncovered not only the secret prison cell where Ethan had been kept, but also damning digital evidence—financial records, encrypted correspondence, and security footage linking Isabella to the suspicious car accident that had claimed William's first wife six months prior.

Isabella Sterling—whose real identity was exposed as a notorious international con artist with a trail of wealthy, deceased husbands across Europe—was marched out of the mansion in handcuffs, her head covered by a heavy jacket to shield her from the blinding flashes of paparazzi cameras camped outside the iron gates.

Inside the grand foyer, the atmosphere was quiet and solemn.

Ethan was wrapped in a warm blanket, sitting on the velvet sofa with a cup of hot chocolate, resting his head comfortably against his father's shoulder. The dark, haunted look in the boy's eyes had begun to fade, replaced by the peaceful calm of safety.

Emma sat across from them in a comfortable armchair, a soft bandage taped delicately over her forehead where Isabella had shoved her against the brick wall. A paramedic packed up his medical kit and gave her a reassuring nod.

"You're going to be just fine, Ms. Torres. Just a mild concussion and some bruising. Rest for a few days," the medic said, packing his bag.

"Thank you," Emma replied with a tired smile.

As the medic walked away, William stood up and walked over to Emma, holding a formal document folder in his hands. Ethan followed closely behind, holding a small, clumsily wrapped box tied with a bright yellow ribbon.

"Emma," William began, his voice filled with deep emotion. "The police have finished their preliminary sweep. Isabella is locked away, and her assets have been frozen. She will never see the light of day again."

"I'm just glad Ethan is safe, Mr. Sterling," Emma said sincerely.

"Ethan wants to give you something," William smiled gently, nudging his son forward.

The nine-year-old boy stepped up to Emma, holding out the small box with both hands. "Thank you for saving me, Emma. You're my real hero."

Emma's eyes welled with tears as she carefully unwrapped the box. Inside lay a delicate silver charm bracelet featuring a tiny house key and a sparkling crystal star.

"Open the folder, Emma," William added gently, handing her the leather-bound document.

Emma opened it, her eyes widening in sheer astonishment. It was a formal deed granting her ownership of a fully paid-off, beautiful three-bedroom townhouse in upstate New York, complete with a generous trust fund designed to cover all her future education and living expenses for the rest of her life.

"I could never truly repay you for what you did," William said firmly, his voice thick with sincerity. "But I want you to be secure, happy, and free to pursue your dreams. And... if you would ever consider it, I would be deeply honored if you stayed on as the head of our household—not just as staff, but as a cherished and trusted member of our family."

Emma looked from the deed to the gleaming charm bracelet, then down at Ethan's bright, joyful smile, and finally at William's warm, appreciative gaze.

The nightmare was finally over.
