Chapter 9 - The New Lead

"To ensure this company never loses its connection to the people we serve," Jonathan continued, "we are creating a new role within our corporate structure: Chief User Experience and Field Innovation Officer. This position will oversee both R&D and customer service, ensuring that feedback from real users directly informs our engineering designs."
Murmurs ran through the board members. One of the senior vice presidents cleared his throat. "Mr. Bennett, a position of that scope requires someone with extensive engineering credentials and administrative experience. Do you have a candidate in mind?"
"I do," Jonathan said. "Annie Carter."
Gasps filled the room. Samuel Wilson sat frozen in his chair, his jaw slightly open.
"Mr. Bennett," the vice president hesitated, "Miss Carter is eighteen and currently an intern..."
"Miss Carter," Jonathan countered, "has solved design flaws in our hardware that our senior engineers missed. She understands our products better than anyone in this room because she lives with them, repairs them, and listens to the people who rely on them every single day. She will lead the team, and the company will fund her full university degree in Biomechanical Engineering while she works."
Jonathan turned to Annie. "If she accepts, of course."
Annie looked at the room filled with executives, then at Jonathan. Her hands were steady. She didn't hesitate.
"I accept, Mr. Bennett," she said clearly. "On one condition."
Jonathan smiled slightly. "Name it."
"I want Mr. Wilson's service center to be the first location where we implement the new support framework, and I want to personally retrain the technical staff."

Jonathan looked at Samuel, who gave a nervous, deeply relieved nod.
"Granted," Jonathan said.
