Chapter 4 - The Flaw in the System

Jonathan stood up and walked to the window, staring out at the bustling floor of the service center. The reality of his empire was pressing down on him. On paper, Bennett Medical Technologies was a triumph of modern engineering and corporate growth. In reality, it had become a distant machine, disconnected from the human lives it was supposed to serve.
"Annie," Jonathan said, turning back to face her. "Do you know who I am?"
Annie looked at his suit, then at Daniel, who stood silently by the door, and finally back to Jonathan’s face. The realization visibly registered in her eyes.
"You're Mr. Bennett," she said slowly. "The founder."
"I am," Jonathan said. "And I owe you an apology. Not just for the state of your equipment, but for a system that prioritized call timers over patient care and bureaucratic rules over human need."
Annie sat up a little straighter. "You don't owe me an apology, Mr. Bennett. The company gave me a job when I was seventeen and needed to pay for my night classes. I'm grateful for the access to the scrap workbench."
Her grace only heightened Jonathan’s resolve. "The scrap workbench is no longer sufficient for what you do. Daniel, call the advanced prototyping lab at headquarters. Tell Dr. Vance I am bringing a guest, and I want the main biomechanics bay cleared for an emergency custom fitting."
Daniel nodded instantly. "Right away, sir."

Annie looked startled. "Mr. Bennett, I have a shift until five, and Mr. Wilson said—"
"Mr. Wilson is going to be spending the rest of the afternoon reviewing customer service logs to learn what real technical support looks like," Jonathan said firmly. "Grab your notebook, Annie. You're coming with me to headquarters."
