Chapter 9 - The Brother’s Return

Julian Warren looked leaner, harder, and considerably more dangerous than Spencer remembered. A jagged scar ran from behind his left ear down to his collarbone, partially visible beneath his high-necked turtleneck. He held a sleek, suppressed pistol pointed casually at the center of Spencer’s chest.

"Julian?" Spencer said, his voice entirely steady despite the sudden spike of adrenaline. "They said you fell off a cliff in Peru. Your funeral was broadcast worldwide."

Julian let out a cold, cynical laugh, shaking his head. "My dear, naive little brother. Father needed me out of the picture because I refused to sign over my share of the global empire to his corporate board. So, he staged my death, paid off the Peruvian authorities, and locked me away in a private sanitarium for five years. When I finally escaped, I found out the old bastard was dead."

Julian stepped closer, his eyes burning with a manic, bitter resentment as he gestured to the ledger on the desk.

"And what did I find when I started digging? That the old man set up a contingency plan—a second generation. You thought you were sterile, Spencer? Father made sure your medical records were doctored a decade ago to make you think you couldn't have children naturally, while quietly harvesting your genetic material to create a new, compliant heir under his direct control."

Spencer’s jaw tightened. Every piece of the puzzle finally clicked into place. The sterile procedures, the secret fertility clinic, Jocelyn Cooper’s obsession, and the baby abandoned outside his gates—it had all been orchestrated by the ghost of Arthur Warren, executed through pawns like Julian and Jocelyn.

"So you used Jocelyn," Spencer said, his voice laced with ice. "You used her to steal the baby back and frame me, hoping to break my corporate standing and seize the entire Warren Global empire."

"Jocelyn was just a useful idiot," Julian sneered, stepping closer, his finger tightening slightly on the trigger. "She wanted revenge on you; I wanted my birthright back. And now that you've so kindly walked right into this trap and brought all the evidence together in one neat little package... I’m going to finish what father started."

Julian raised the pistol higher, aiming directly between Spencer’s eyes.

"Goodbye, little brother. Say hello to the old man for me."

Before Julian could pull the trigger, the massive glass window behind him shattered in a thunderous explosion of glass and splintered wood.

A high-powered tactical grappling hook slammed into the mahogany desk, followed immediately by the crash of Swiss federal police officers and Interpol tactical units pouring through the broken windows and doors.

"Drop the weapon! Federal agents! Drop it now!" shouted the lead Interpol commander, weapons drawn and laser sights locked onto Julian’s chest.

Julian froze, the pistol slipping from his trembling fingers as he looked around in absolute disbelief. He spun his head toward Spencer. "You... you led them right to me."

"I didn't lead them," Spencer said coldly, straightening his jacket cuffs as Jonathan Drake stepped into the room flanked by armed officers. "I locked down the chalet's satellite coordinates the moment I landed. You were never dealing with just one brother, Julian. You were dealing with a modern businessman who learned how to anticipate every trap."

Julian lunged forward in a desperate attempt to grab the ledger, but three tactical officers tackled him to the floor, snapping heavy steel cuffs onto his wrists with brutal efficiency. As they dragged him away, screaming curses into the Alpine air, Spencer closed the black ledger and secured it inside his briefcase.

The war for the Warren dynasty was finally over. Now, it was time to go home.
