Chapter 8 - Secrets of the Swiss Chalet

The private Gulfstream jet touched down at Geneva International Airport under a crisp, overcast Alpine sky. Spencer and Jonathan Drake were met on the tarmac by a local security liaison who escorted them directly to a secluded, snow-dusted estate overlooking the glassy expanse of Lake Geneva.
The chalet was a sprawling structure of dark timber and stone, half-hidden among towering pine trees. It looked abandoned, its windows shuttered against the cold European wind.
Using a heavy iron key found in his mother’s safety deposit box back in New York, Spencer unlocked the heavy front door. A layer of dust coated the antique furniture, smelling faintly of old paper and pine needles.
"Keep watch outside, Jonathan," Spencer instructed, unzipping his heavy overcoat. "I’ll check the study."
The study was lined with heavy oak bookshelves. Following his mother’s letter, Spencer walked over to a massive oil painting depicting the Swiss Alps during a winter storm. Pressing a concealed brass latch behind the frame, the painting clicked and swung outward, revealing a heavy digital keypad built into the stone wall.
Spencer entered his mother’s birthday—a sequence he knew by heart.
BEEP. The heavy steel door of the wall safe popped open with a satisfying hiss.
Inside sat rows of old cassette tapes, legal portfolios tied with faded red ribbons, and a thick black ledger labeled simply: Warren Holdings: Contingency Records.
Spencer pulled the ledger out and carried it over to a heavy leather desk, brushing away the dust. As he flipped open the cover, the breath caught in his throat.
The ledger didn't just contain financial assets. It contained a comprehensive, chronological record of every child Arthur Warren had fathered across Europe and America—including complete medical files, adoption papers, and financial trust accounts.
And right there, near the very middle of the book, was a page dedicated to Spencer himself.
Spencer’s eyes scanned the medical notes, and his blood ran completely cold.
“Patient: Spencer Warren. DOB: October 14. Note: Subject is the only surviving legitimate male heir, engineered via specialized fertility treatments supervised by Dr. Pamela Ortiz’s mentor, Dr. Heinrich Bauer. Cryopreserved genetic samples duplicated and stored in secondary Swiss facility to ensure bloodline continuation regardless of personal choices.”
Spencer stared at the page, his mind spinning into a vortex of absolute shock.
He hadn't just frozen his samples twelve years ago out of personal precaution. His father had manipulated his medical procedures a decade before that, harvesting and duplicating his genetic material without his knowledge when Spencer was barely out of college, treating him like prize livestock for the continuation of the Warren dynasty.
And that meant... baby Dexter wasn't just a random accident of stolen samples. He was part of a master blueprint Arthur Warren had set in motion decades prior—a blueprint that someone else was now trying to hijack.
Suddenly, the heavy wooden door of the study slammed shut.
Spencer whipped around, dropping the ledger onto the desk as a cold, familiar voice echoed from the shadows near the doorway.

"Well, well, well. Look who finally decided to clean out the old man's attic."
Stepping out from the darkness of the bookshelf alcove was a man Spencer hadn't seen in over ten years—his estranged older half-brother, Julian Warren, whom everyone believed had died in a mountaineering accident in the Andes a decade ago.
