Chapter 7 - The Secret Revealed To The CEO

Back in the main office, the twilight shadows were lengthening across the Manhattan skyline.

Nathan Brooks stood by his desk, looking out at the glittering lights of the city. As the door opened, he turned to see Emma walk in. Her eyes were slightly red, but her chin was held high.

"Is it done?" Nathan asked quietly.

"It’s done," Emma replied, setting a signed copy of the finalized M&A agreement on his desk. "Müller GmbH accepted every single clause. The merger is locked in. Brooks Enterprises just secured a three-hundred-million-dollar expansion."

Nathan looked at the signature, then up at Emma. A slow, respectful smile spread across his face.

"You destroyed them," Nathan said softly. "Not with anger. With brilliance."

Emma let out a long breath, the tension of the past forty-eight hours finally draining from her shoulders. "I had a good teacher, Mr. Brooks. You showed me that brilliance shouldn't have to beg for a door."

Nathan walked around his desk, stopping just a few feet away from her. For the first time since they had met, his cold corporate exterior melted away, revealing a warmth that caught Emma completely off guard.

"Emma," Nathan said, his voice lowering, carrying a tender hesitation. "When Marcus told me your history yesterday... when I realized what kind of man Julian Vance was... I had my private investigator dig a little deeper into your background. Not just your resume. Your life."

Emma stiffened slightly. "Mr. Brooks—"

"I know what you went through," Nathan interrupted gently. "I know you raised a brilliant, bilingual seven-year-old girl all by yourself while working yourself to the bone. And I know that the man who fathered her didn't deserve a fraction of your strength."

Emma looked down, biting her lip. "I didn't ask for pity, Mr. Brooks."

"I’m not offering pity," Nathan said, stepping closer. "I’m offering partnership. Effective tomorrow, the position of Senior Vice President of International Acquisitions opens up. The salary comes with a corner office, full stock options, and a medical package that ensures your daughter never has to worry about healthcare, education, or anything else ever again."

Emma looked up, her eyes wide with shock. "S-Senior VP? Mr. Brooks, I started in the café two days ago—"

"You started in the café seven years too late," Nathan corrected softly, reaching out to gently touch her shoulder. "And if you say no, I’ll have to find another analyst who can take notes in German better than I can—which, as we both know, is statistically impossible."

A genuine, radiant smile broke across Emma’s face for the first time in years—a smile so bright it seemed to light up the entire executive floor.
