Chapter 9 - A Place Called Home

Spring bloomed across the city, bringing warm sunshine, green grass, and blooming tulips.
With the foundation running smoothly and Clara’s career thriving, life settled into a blissful, joyous rhythm. Ethan was no longer the distant, workaholic attorney who spent eighty hours a week in a high-rise office. He made sure to be home every evening for dinner.
He helped Lily with her math homework, taught her how to ride a bicycle in the park, and attended every single one of her school events.
In May, Northbridge Elementary held its annual Spring Art Exhibition under a new, compassionate administration.
Lily's artwork—a breathtaking series of watercolor paintings depicting winter turning into a sunny spring forest—won first place in the youth category.
When her name was called over the loudspeaker: "First place: Lily Vance!"
The entire auditorium burst into enthusiastic cheers. Lily walked up to the stage with a bright, confident smile, holding her ribbon high.
Ethan and Clara stood in the front row, cheering loudly. As Lily walked back down the aisle, she ran straight into Ethan’s open arms. He lifted her up, spinning her around as she laughed with pure delight.
"I won, Ethan! I won!" she giggled.
"I always knew you would, kiddo," Ethan smiled warmly, kissing her forehead before setting her down.
That evening, after Lily went to sleep in her cozy room, Ethan and Clara walked out onto the patio of the townhouse. The spring air was soft and fragrant with the scent of blooming flowers.
Ethan reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box.
Clara turned around, her breath catching in her throat as Ethan dropped down on one knee beneath the starlit sky.
"Clara," Ethan said, his voice rich with emotion. "Five months ago, I walked into a cold gymnasium expecting to give a speech and leave. Instead, I met you and Lily, and my entire world changed forever. You restored my heart, gave my life purpose, and showed me what a true family means."
He opened the velvet box, revealing a stunning solitaire diamond ring that caught the moonlight.
"Clara Vance, will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?"
May you like
Clara brought her hands to her face, tears of pure joy glistening in her eyes. "Yes! Yes, Ethan! Absolutely yes!"
Ethan stood up and slid the ring onto her finger before pulling her into a passionate, loving embrace. From the upstairs window, Lily peered out, giving them a giant thumbs-up and a beaming smile.
