Chapter 4 - Stripped of Power

The hospital room door opened again, and this time, the Chief of Medicine entered, accompanied by the hospital’s head of security and two police officers.
"Mr. Vance, Mrs. Vance, and Ms. Chloe Brooks," the Chief of Medicine said, his face stern. "You are hereby ordered to leave this facility immediately. Your presence is causing a disruption, and we have received official notice of legal fraud occurring on our premises."
"You can't kick us out!" Eleanor shrieked, her aristocratic facade completely crumbling. "We are donors! We paid for the pediatric wing!"
"Actually, Eleanor," Arthur said smoothly, pulling a fountain pen from his pocket. "You were donors. Thirty minutes ago, Sterling Global purchased the outstanding debt of Vance Enterprises' primary creditors. By tomorrow morning, your family firm will be in technical default. I have also just purchased this entire hospital's outstanding municipal bonds. I am now the majority chair of the hospital board."
Arthur looked at the Chief of Medicine. "Have them removed. If they resist, have the police arrest them for trespassing and attempted child trafficking."
The police officers stepped forward, their hands resting on their utility belts.
"This isn't over, Vivienne!" Dominic yelled as a security guard grabbed his arm, forcing him toward the exit. "We are married! You can't just ruin my life!"
"I didn't ruin your life, Dominic," I said calmly as he was dragged out. "You did."
Chloe was sobbing, trying to distance herself from Dominic as the guards escorted her. "I had nothing to do with this! Dominic told me it was all legal! I swear!"
"Save it for the judge, Ms. Brooks," Sarah Jenkins called out behind them.
The heavy doors shut, and silence finally returned to the room.
Arthur turned back to me, his eyes shining with pride. "You handled that beautifully, my dear."

"I learned from the best," I smiled, holding Sophia close. "Thank you, Dad."
"Always, Vivienne. Now, let's get you moved to a suite that is actually fitting for a Sterling."
