Chapter 10 - A Legacy Secured

Three Years Later
The gardens of the Sterling Estate were decorated with bright pink and white balloons, and the sound of children's laughter filled the warm summer air.
It was Sophia's third birthday.
She ran across the grass, her curly hair bouncing as she chased a golden retriever puppy my father had gifted her. She was healthy, happy, and surrounded by people who loved her unconditionally.
My father sat on the patio, watching her with a bright, proud smile. He looked younger now, the stress of our past estrangement completely washed away by the joy of being a grandfather.
"She has your spirit, Vivienne," he said as I sat down next to him, holding a glass of fresh lemonade.
"She does," I agreed, watching her laugh as she tripped over her own feet and immediately scrambled back up, completely unfazed. "She's strong."
Sarah Jenkins walked up to join us, raising her glass in a toast. "To the strongest mother-daughter duo I have ever had the honor of representing."
"To family," I smiled, clinking my glass against theirs.
As the sun began to set, painting the sky in beautiful shades of orange and purple, Sophia ran up to me, throwing her small arms around my neck.
"I love you, Mommy!" she giggled, pressing a sticky, cake-covered cheek against mine.
"I love you more than the whole world, Sophia," I whispered, holding her tight.

My husband and his mother had tried to take everything from me. They had thought I was weak, isolated, and easy to break. But in their greed, they had awoken a force they could never hope to defeat.
I had my daughter. I had my family. And together, we had built a future that no one could ever steal from us again.
