Chapter 10 - The Road Ahead

Three years later, the sun shone brightly over the grand auditorium at Ohio State University. Hundreds of graduates sat in rows of red caps and gowns, their families filling the bleachers with cheers and applause.
"Lily Carter," the dean announced over the loudspeaker, his voice echoing across the stadium. "Magna Cum Laude, Bachelor of Science in Architecture."
I stood up and cheered at the top of my lungs, tears of immense pride filling my eyes. Sitting beside me was Aunt Sarah and even Brianna, who had worked hard to rebuild her relationship with Lily over the past few years. Denise and Evelyn were absent, having long since drifted into the distant background of our lives, isolated by their own lingering bitterness. But their absence left no void—only peace.
After the ceremony, we gathered outside on the courtyard lawn. Lily looked stunning in her cap and gown, her degree safely tucked under her arm.
"You did it, kiddo," I said, pulling her into a tight hug.
"We did it," she corrected me with a glowing smile.
We walked together out to the parking lot where the dark blue 2022 Mustang GT was parked, still pristine, still gleaming under the bright afternoon light. On the back windshield, Lily had placed a small, elegant decal of her new architecture firm's logo, where she had been hired full-time right out of college.
She walked around to the driver's side, patted the roof affectionately, and looked across the hood toward the open road ahead.
"Where to now, Dad?" she asked, holding up the keys with a triumphant smile.
May you like
"Wherever you want to go, Lily," I replied, opening the passenger door. "The road is completely yours."
She started the engine, the familiar, deep rumble resonating through the air—a sound of strength, victory, and unconditional love. As we pulled out into the sunshine, leaving the past far behind in the rearview mirror, we drove forward into a bright, boundless future.
