Chapter 6 - The Gathering Storm

Two days later, a process server arrived at the mansion. Claudia and Mark were officially served with a 30-day notice of eviction, alongside a freezing order on all accounts associated with Sarah's trust fund, initiated by Arthur’s legal firm.
The reaction was instantaneous. My phone lit up with dozens of missed calls and vitriolic text messages from both Mark and Claudia.
“You old fool! You’re ruining this family!” one text from Mark read. “You’ll pay for this, you pathetic old man. Ethan belongs in the gutter,” Claudia wrote.
I ignored them all. Instead, Detective Vance’s team monitored their digital footprint. As predicted, the panic set in immediately.
Through the wiretaps and digital surveillance authorized by a federal judge, we watched as Claudia desperately tried to log into the Cayman Island accounts, only to find them flagged and locked by international authorities cooperating with the FBI.
"They’re turning on each other," Vance reported to us via a secure phone call. "We just intercepted a phone call between Mark and Claudia. Mark is panicking, begging her to run away with him. Claudia told him he’s a coward and threatened to frame him for the entire poisoning scheme if he doesn't help her retrieve the chemical stash hidden in the house."

"When are they moving?" I asked, my heart pounding.
"Tonight," Vance said. "They’ve called a moving truck for their personal belongings, and Claudia is planning to meet her accomplice—the corrupt clinic doctor—to secure fake passports. We’re moving in tonight."
