Chapter 10 - A New Springtime

Three years later.

The air was warm, filled with the scent of blooming jasmine and the cheerful sound of laughter echoing across my backyard. We were celebrating Ethan's graduation from university. He had graduated at the top of his class with a degree in social work and pre-law, dedicated to defending vulnerable children in the legal system.

The backyard was full of life. Friends from college, neighbors, and Arthur were all gathered around a long table laden with grilled food, fresh salads, and cold drinks.

Ethan stood at the head of the table, looking healthy, vibrant, and incredibly handsome in his graduation suit. The paleness and frailty of his past were entirely gone, replaced by the robust strength of a young man who knew his worth and his purpose.

He raised his glass, looking out at the smiling faces of the people who truly loved him. Finally, his eyes rested on me.

"I want to make a toast," Ethan said, his voice ringing out clear and strong. "To the people who stand by you when the world goes cold. Three years ago, I thought I was completely alone in the dark. But I learned that love isn't about the blood you share; it's about the actions you take to protect one another. Thank you all for being my family. And especially, thank you, Grandpa. You didn't just save my life that Christmas Eve. You gave me a future."

Everyone cheered, clinking their glasses together under the golden afternoon sun.

I walked up to Ethan, clinking my glass against his. The dark winter was long gone, buried beneath the unstoppable warmth of justice, truth, and unconditional love. We had finally found our happy ending, and the future ahead of us was brighter than we had ever dared to dream.
