Chapter 7 - The New Dawn

Three months passed.

The transition within Romano Holdings was swift, ruthless, and absolute. Market analysts had initially panicked when news of Isabella's arrest and the subsequent restructuring broke across international financial news networks. Stocks dipped by twenty percent within the first week.

However, Leo Romano’s counter-strategy was legendary.

In a televised global press conference broadcast from the corporate headquarters in Milan, Leo stood tall and unapologetic. He didn't hide the scandal; he owned it. He exposed the corruption within St. Cecilia’s Hospital, purged every compromised executive, and restructured the private trust entirely around transparency and charitable foundations.

Investors, realizing that the Romano empire was stronger, more honest, and more disciplined than ever, rushed back. Within two months, the stock not only recovered but hit an all-time high.

Back at the estate, the atmosphere had transformed completely. The heavy, suffocating tension that once clung to the hallways was replaced by the sound of running footsteps, laughter, and the joyful barking of golden retriever puppies in the courtyard.

Alexander was adjusting remarkably well to his new life. No longer a hidden secret, he was tutored by the finest scholars, played in the sunlit gardens with Willow every afternoon, and sat beside his father during Sunday evening dinners.

Leo sat in his private study, reviewing the latest quarterly reports, when a soft knock sounded at the door.

"Come in," Leo said without looking up.

The door creaked open, and Willow peeked inside, holding a freshly baked plate of chocolate chip cookies. Clara stood a few steps behind her in the hallway, smiling warmly.

"Mr. Romano," Willow said politely, walking over to the massive mahogany desk. "We made these in the kitchen with Mrs. Gable. Mom said you've been working since sunrise."

Leo set his pen down, leaning back in his leather chair. A rare, genuine smile touched the corners of his mouth.

"Did you now?" Leo took a cookie from the plate, breaking it in half. "Thank you, Willow. How are your classes going?"

"They're great, sir! I'm learning French and advanced geometry," Willow beamed proudly. "And Alexander is learning how to ride a pony down in the east paddock."

"Is he now? Sounds like he's turning into a true Romano," Leo chuckled.

He reached into his breast pocket and pulled out a small, heavy silver key, placing it gently on the wooden desk beside the plate of cookies.

"What's this, sir?" Willow asked, tilting her head.

"That is the key to the estate's private library," Leo said softly. "Your mother tells me you've read every single book in the local public library twice over. The Romano family library has texts dating back four centuries. They are yours to explore whenever you wish."

Willow’s eyes widened with pure wonder. She picked up the silver key as if it were made of glass. "Thank you, Mr. Romano. I'll take good care of them, I promise."

"I know you will, Willow," Leo replied, looking at the bright, intelligent child who had saved his entire legacy. "I know you will."
