Chapter 8 - The Judgment of the House

The silence in the grand drawing-room was so profound that the ticking of the antique grandfather clock in the corner sounded like a sledgehammer.

The assembled guests—judges, politicians, bankers, and high-society socialites—stared back and forth between Beatrice Vance, who stood tall despite her ordeal, and Victoria, whose immaculate silk gown now looked like a straitjacket of her own making. Whispers broke out like wildfire.

“Is that… Beatrice?” Evelyn Sterling gasped, covering her mouth with her jeweled hand. “Good Lord, she looks like a skeleton! What has happened here?”

“Ask your gracious hostess,” Alex replied, his voice calm, steady, and laden with lethal precision. He pulled a heavy, encrypted tactical tablet from his belt and tapped the screen twice.

Instantly, the massive, high-definition wall-mounted television behind the fireplace flickered to life. Instead of the landscape art loop that usually played during parties, the screen began projecting high-resolution security footage captured directly from the estate's hidden utility cameras over the past twenty-two days.

The room watched in absolute horror as the video played on a loop: Victoria locking the steel cage; Victoria sipping champagne while mocking the starving matriarch; Victoria transferring millions of dollars from family corporate accounts into her own offshore shell companies using forged digital signatures.

Audio accompanied the video, broadcasting Victoria’s cruel, mocking laughter across the entire silent room: “Nobody’s coming to save you, Beatrice… By the time Julian returns next year, you’ll have quietly passed away from natural causes…”

Victoria dropped to her knees on the marble floor, her expensive designer dress pooling around her like a puddle of blood-red water. Her face was soaked in tears of pure panic and utter defeat. She clawed at the polished stones, completely stripped of her power, her status, and her illusion of absolute control.

“No… no, please… it’s a misunderstanding… let me explain…” she sobbed hysterically, looking up pleadingly at the faces of the people she had manipulated for years. But every single guest turned their heads away in disgust, stepping back as if her very presence was toxic.

At that exact moment, the front doors pushed open once more.
