Chapter 9 - A New Foundation

In the weeks following the battle, Josiah made sweeping changes that shocked the city’s underground. He systematically dismantled his illegal operations, transitioning his vast wealth into legitimate real estate, global shipping, and philanthropic foundations. He refused to let Mia or Willow live under the constant shadow of violence any longer.
The mansion was renovated. The dark marble was replaced with warm oak floors; the cold security lights were softened with warm lanterns; and the vast gardens were filled with blooming flowers and playground swings.
One sunny afternoon, four months later, Willow stood on the back porch, watching Mia happily chase a golden retriever puppy through the lush green grass. The sound of Mia’s clear, innocent laughter filled the warm air.
A pair of strong arms wrapped gently around Willow's waist from behind. Josiah rested his chin softly on her shoulder, drawing her back against his broad chest. Willow smiled, leaning back into his warm embrace, placing her hands over his.
“She’s so happy, Josiah,” Willow murmured softly.
“We are happy, Willow,” Josiah corrected gently, turning her around in his arms so she was facing him. He looked down at her with pure, unabashed devotion. “You saved us, Willow. You walked into our chaos when everyone else ran away. You healed my daughter, and you gave me a reason to become a better man.”
Willow looked into his dark, beautiful eyes, tears of joy sparkling in her own. “I didn't save you, Josiah. We saved each other.”
Josiah reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box. He slipped down onto one knee on the sunny porch. Willow gasped, covering her mouth with her hands.
“Willow Vance,” Josiah said, his voice deep and full of emotion. “You came into my life as a waitress with nothing left to lose, and you became everything I could ever dream of having. Will you do me the absolute honor of becoming my wife, Mia’s mother, and the queen of my life?”

From the garden, Mia came running up the steps, her eyes bright with excitement. “Say yes, Willow! Please say yes!”
Willow laughed through her joyful tears, dropping to her knees beside Josiah and wrapping her arms around his neck. “Yes! A thousand times yes!”
