Chapter 10 - The Airport Circle

Two years after the grand opening, the atmosphere inside Terminal B of Boston Logan International Airport was as chaotic and bustling as ever. Travelers rushed past with their luggage, flight announcements blared over the loudspeakers, and children giggled as they watched planes take off through the massive windows.

Near Gate B23, a husband and wife walked hand-in-hand.

Ethan Harrison walked with a slight, barely noticeable limp—a small reminder of the journey he had taken, though he required no braces or external support. Beside him, Maya carried a small, sleeping toddler in her arms: their one-year-old daughter, Chloe.

They were returning from a medical conference in London, where their neural-regeneration technology had just been approved for global distribution, ensuring that poor families worldwide would receive the treatment entirely free of charge.

Suddenly, a loud clatter echoed across the terminal.

A few yards ahead of them, an elderly man collapsed to the floor, his luggage spilling everywhere. His face was pale, and he clutched his chest in obvious distress.

Instantly, the familiar pattern repeated itself. The passengers around the man slowed down. People stared in shock. A businessman stepped back to avoid the falling luggage. A flight attendant fumbled for her phone. The same circle of hesitation, fear, and bystander apathy began to form around the fallen man.

Maya and Ethan did not hesitate for a fraction of a second.

Ethan smoothly took the sleeping Chloe from Maya’s arms, stepping back to ensure the baby's safety while securing a perimeter. Maya dropped her carry-on bag—a simple, elegant purple leather backpack—and immediately dashed forward.

"Move!" Maya commanded, her voice ringing with absolute authority as she pushed through the frozen crowd.

She dropped to her knees beside the elderly man, immediately checking his pulse and clearing his airway. "My name is Dr. Maya Harrison," she said, her voice calm, steady, and filled with reassuring power. "I know exactly what to do. Someone call for an AED, right now!"

Ethan watched his wife work, his heart swelling with a love so profound it brought tears to his eyes. He looked down at the little girl sleeping peacefully in his arms, then up at the crowd of people who were now snapping out of their trance, moving quickly to assist under Maya's direction.

The world was still full of moments where people froze out of fear. But as long as there were people like Maya—people who possessed the courage to break the circle, to step into the dark, and to offer the breath of life to a stranger—there would always be hope.

Maya looked back at Ethan for a brief second, flashing him a quick, confident smile before returning to save another life. The millionaire’s son and the poor girl had rewritten their destiny, transforming a moment of terrifying tragedy into a lifetime of endless healing and unconditional love.
