Chapter 10 - A New Beginning

Two years after the rainy afternoon when a broke, desperate single mother walked through the iron gates with thirty-seven dollars in her bank account, the Moretti estate welcomed a radically different kind of day.
The front courtyard, once cold and guarded by armed security guards, was filled with white roses, glowing lanterns, and the sound of a string quartet playing soft melodies under a clear summer sky. Friends, legitimate business partners, and family members sat in elegant rows on the sun-drenched lawn.
At the front of the altar stood Adrian Moretti, wearing a tailored navy tuxedo, his dark hair styled, looking completely at peace. Standing beside him as his three best men were Noah, Caleb, and Miles, dressed in matching miniature tuxedos, their gray eyes beaming with pride and joy.
The music shifted to a grand processional march. The crowd rose to their feet as six-year-old Lily walked down the aisle as the flower girl, tossing pink rose petals onto the white runner with a bright, sunny grin.
Then came Claire.
She walked down the aisle looking breathtaking in a simple, elegant lace gown, her dark hair pinned back with delicate pearl clips. She carried a bouquet of white peonies, her eyes locked entirely on the man waiting for her at the end of the path.
When she reached the altar, Adrian took both of her hands in his, his fingers trembling slightly with emotion.
"Two years ago," Adrian said, his deep voice carrying over the quiet garden, "a woman walked through my doors soaking wet from a prank my sons had pulled. She had every reason to turn around and run. Instead, she looked me in the eye and told me water dries. Claire, you brought light into a house that had known only darkness. You taught my sons how to love again, and you taught me that strength isn't built with walls—it's built with trust, courage, and unconditional love. I give you my heart, my life, and my family, forever."
Claire wiped a happy tear from her eye as she spoke her vows. "Adrian, I came to this house looking for a way to save my daughter. I never expected to find the missing pieces of my soul. You showed me that grief doesn't have to be the end of our story—it can be the soil where a beautiful new life grows. I promise to love you, to stand by you in every storm, and to build a home with you where our children will never feel alone."
The minister smiled warmly at the couple. "By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."
Adrian pulled Claire close, lifting her slightly as he kissed her deeply under the afternoon sun, punctuated by the loud, joyous cheers of their four children jumping up and down beside them.
As the reception began and evening turned into a starlit night, the estate rang with music, dancing, and uncontrollable laughter. Standing on the quiet edge of the patio, holding a glass of champagne, Claire looked out over the glowing garden.
Noah, Caleb, Miles, and Lily were currently engaged in a playful chase across the lawn, their laughter echoing through the warm summer air. Adrian stepped up behind Claire, slipping his arms around her waist and pulling her tight against his chest.
"What are you thinking about, Mrs. Moretti?" he murmured softly against her ear.
Claire turned in his arms, wrapping her hands around his neck, looking into the warm gray eyes that had once terrified her.

"I'm thinking about that bucket of water," Claire smiled, a playful sparkle in her eyes. "Best thirty-seven dollars I ever spent."
Adrian laughed, leaning down to press his lips against hers as the stars shone brightly above the home they had built together—completely healed, forever safe, and finally whole.
