Chapter 6 - THE CHASE TO THE DOCKS

The Chicago night was freezing, a biting wind howling off Lake Michigan as Weston’s black armored SUV tore through the empty industrial district near the South Chicago harbor.

Inside the vehicle, the atmosphere was thick with tension. Weston sat in the back next to Priya, his large hand resting on the stock of a compact submachine gun sitting in a tactical case between his knees. His security team—four hardened veterans of the city's underworld—communicated in clipped codes over encrypted radios.

"We have visual on Voss's vehicle," Dante's voice crackled from the front passenger seat. "He’s pulled up behind Warehouse 4 near the old grain elevators. A secondary black sedan is waiting for him there. Looks like an offshore transfer."

"Ram the secondary sedan," Weston ordered calmly. "Block all exits. No one leaves."

"Copy that, Boss."

Within seconds, the SUV accelerated violently, its heavy engine roaring as it surged around the corner of a corrugated steel warehouse. Headlights cut through the thick fog rolling off the dark water.

With a brutal screech of tearing metal, Weston's vehicle slammed directly into the side of the secondary sedan, pinning it against the concrete loading bay of the warehouse.

Dr. Everett Voss stumbled out of his Audi sedan twenty yards away, dropping his briefcase in sheer terror as armed men swarmed out of the Kade vehicles, securing the perimeter in absolute silence.

Weston stepped out of the SUV, his tall frame cutting an imposing silhouette against the glare of the high-beam headlights. Priya followed right behind him, clutching her coat tightly against the freezing lake wind.

Voss fell backward onto the wet asphalt, scrambling away until his back hit the cold steel wall of the warehouse. His face was pale, slick with cold sweat, his glasses dangling crookedly from one ear.

"Mr... Mr. Kade!" Voss stammered, raising his hands in frantic self-defense. "Please! It was a mistake! I was pressured—they threatened my family—"

Weston walked up to him slowly, his boots crunching on the gravel. He didn't yell. He didn't draw a weapon. He simply stood over the terrified doctor like an impending natural disaster.

"Who?" Weston asked, his voice a low, lethal whisper.

"The... the Moretti family remnants," Voss sobbed, tears mixing with the cold mist on his cheeks. "They said if I didn't alter the TPN formulas to ensure the infant didn't survive, they would expose my medical malpractice lawsuits from five years ago and ruin me. They promised me a million dollars offshore once the hospital discharged the death certificate!"

Priya stepped forward into the harsh headlights, pulling the evidence flash drive and the toxicological lab report from her pocket.

"It wasn't just coercion, Weston," Priya said coldly, looking down at the disgraced doctor. "He set up a dedicated override protocol to systematically starve a newborn baby. He betrayed every oath he took."

From the shadows near the warehouse doors, a sharp, cold voice echoed across the quiet dock.

"Well, well. Look what the lake washed in."
