Part 5: A New Foundation

Three weeks later, the Blackwood mansion felt completely different. The cold, sterile, museum-like atmosphere that Serena had enforced was gone. Fresh flowers filled the foyer, sunlight streamed unhindered through the massive windows, and the sound of baby laughter echoed down the hallways.
Ethan’s cast had been removed a few days prior, and his arm had healed remarkably well. He was running around the carpeted playroom, chasing a robotic puppy while Lily sat on a velvet sofa, watching with a fond smile.
Victor stood in the doorway, leaning against the frame with his suit jacket draped over his arm. He watched Lily laugh as Ethan tumbled onto her lap, demanding to be tickled.
“You’re spoiling him,” Victor said, a rare, genuine smile touching the corners of his mouth.
“He deserves to be spoiled after everything he’s been through,” Lily retorted playfully, tickling Ethan’s tummy until the baby squealed with delight.
Victor walked into the room, kneeling beside the sofa. He reached out and gently straightened a ribbon in Lily’s hair, his fingers lingering near her cheek. Lily’s breath hitched. Over the past few weeks, their relationship had subtly shifted from employer and employee to something much deeper, much warmer.
“There’s something I need to tell you,” Victor said, his expression turning serious.
Lily’s smile faltered slightly. “What is it?”
“The authorities caught up with Serena’s family in Florida last night. They tried to flee the country on a private yacht,” Victor explained calmly. “They’re facing federal indictments for financial fraud, extortion, and conspiracy. They will never see freedom again.”
A wave of immense relief washed over Lily. The ghost of Serena Montague—and the lingering terror of her threats—was finally, permanently exorcised.
“It’s over,” Lily breathed out, closing her eyes.
“It’s over,” Victor agreed softly. He reached out, taking her hand in his large, warm palm. “Which means there’s nothing holding us back from being honest about what we feel for each other.”
Lily’s heart hammered against her ribs. “Victor...”
“I didn't know what love looked like until I saw the way you risked your life to shield my son from a monster,” Victor confessed, his deep voice thick with emotion. “You brought warmth back into this dark house, Lily. You saved my boy. And now, I want to spend the rest of my life making sure no one ever hurts either of you again.”
Ethan toddled over, leaning against both of their knees, looking up with wide, innocent eyes, and babbled, “Mama... Li-Li...”
May you like
Lily gasped, covering her mouth as tears welled in her eyes. Victor chuckled softly, wrapping one arm around Lily’s waist and pulling her close, while scooping Ethan up with his other arm.
“Looks like he’s already made up his mind,” Victor whispered, and leaned in to kiss her.
