Chapter 10 - A Bright Horizon

One year later, life looked completely different—and infinitely brighter.

Megan had enrolled back in college to finish her degree in interior design, a passion Richard had forced her to abandon years ago. Her very first freelance client had just booked her to design a local boutique hotel lobby, and her creative spark was shining brighter than ever.

Sophie was thriving in middle school, joining the debate club and the art guild, her confidence soaring. She no longer walked through life looking over her shoulder, knowing that her family was a fortress of safety and unconditional love.

Mom had moved into a charming, independent senior apartment downtown. She had started a book club, taken up watercolor painting, and rebuilt her relationship with both of her daughters on a foundation of honesty and mutual respect. We still gathered every Sunday for family dinner, laughing, sharing stories, and enjoying meals cooked without an ounce of fear in the air.

As for me, I drove back from Columbus to my own apartment that Sunday evening, watching the golden sunset paint the Ohio horizon. My phone buzzed in the cup holder with a text message from Megan: Home safe. Mom brought dessert. We love you, Claire.

I smiled, turning up the radio as the road stretched out smooth and open before me. We had walked through the darkest storm imaginable, but we had made it to the other side together. And our happily ever after was just beginning.
